Dr.1: An Introduction to the Project

Model airways has contracted with me to develop a Fokker Dr.1 kit to add to the series that includes the Curtiss “Jenny”, the Sopwith “Camel”, the Newport 28, the Albatros D.Va and the Wright “Flyer”. I began design work on it in December 2011 and will finish it in early 2013. To explain how I came to get this contract, here is my story.

When you run a business for 35+ years, sometimes things get hidden and/or misplaced. Take for instance this box of 36 Airfix F-84F Thunderstreak kits - they've been missing in action for years and magically appeared after rearranging some stuff. I think they make a nice addition to our Aircraft Closeout section!

Check out the detailed build of the Albatros D. Va (by Model Airways) that won Kevin Berkowitz "Best of Show" at the 2005 Pegasus Model Society show in Northern Greece!

Kevin's comments: These are photos of my Model Airways Albatros 1/16th scale. It won the prize "Best of Show" at the 2005 show of the Pegasus Model Society of Northern Greece. That took place in Thessaloniki, Greece, where I live.
